About the Role

We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join City of Ryde Libraries as the Team Leader – West Ryde Library. This is your chance to bring your leadership skills to this unique and recently refurbished library which also houses STEM installations and is located in a busy shopping and transport precinct. West Ryde Library also houses an external Book Locker for collecting reserved items and a Library of Things and hosts a comprehensive range of programs throughout its seven day operation.

The purpose of this role is to deliver a consistent and responsive library service that meets the community’s needs and to provide leadership and operational management of the branch library. As a senior member of the library service you will contribute to the development and delivery of service improvements and to the achievements of the Library Strategic Plan.

The position is full time, working Monday to Friday including evening and rostered weekend work. Library staff are required to wear a uniform which will be provided.

 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Library Management Team by providing leadership and guidance with relation to people management processes including recruitment, staff development and performance improvement.
  • Lead and supervise the lending services function of the library and co-ordinate the rostering of staff within teams and/or in other teams as required.
  • Establish, foster and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Manage the service desk and customer experience to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and seek assistance from specialist library staff as required.
  • Contribute to the senior library management team to improve service delivery by maintaining an awareness of current trends in public libraries and contributing to the strategic direction of the library service.
  • Proactively identify and meet community needs, ensuring that the collection, services and programs target current and emerging needs particularly in the area of STEM education and technology.


Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent as recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and/or a degree level qualification in a related area with significant public library experience.
  • Current Working with Children check
  • Class C Drivers Licence
  • Experience in the delivery of a high level public library and information service in a cross cultural customer service environment.
  • Proven people management and supervisory experience (minimum 2 years) in a public library or similar customer focussed environment, including the supervision and performance management of staff.
  • Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills including report writing, procedure development, problem solving, negotiation and effective complaints handling skills and experience.
  • Experience in process improvement and leading/implementing change.
  • Understanding of current issues and trends in the library industry.
  • Knowledge of EEO principles, Privacy and Information Act.

Your commencing annual salary will range from $93,526.74 to $104,932.44 pa + Superannuation, dependent on your experience and qualifications.
